Black Life: Untold Stories
Program Information
Black Opportunity Fund continues its work as the National Community Impact Partner for the Black Life: Untold Stories 8 part CBC docuseries and public engagement campaign, exploring the rich history of the Black experience in Canada. The epic eight-part series, which is currently available to stream on CBC, traces the complex history of the Black experience in Canada over the past 400 years. The series, led by an all-Black creative team, celebrates the contributions of Black Canadians while presenting an unflinching examination of our collective past. BOF continues to host screenings and panel discussions in communities across Canada to deepen public understanding of Canada’s Black history. BOF is currently working directly with school boards and educators across Ontario to support the implementation of mandatory Black History Curriculum in the Fall of 2026, by hosting screenings of the Black Life Series episodes, along with presentations of the teacher watch guides and other curriculum resources.

The Halton District School Board serves public school students throughout Halton Region, including the municipalities of Burlington, Halton Hills, Milton and Oakville. Its administration area is to the southwest of the city of Toronto. In 2025, it served almost 68,000 students, excluding those in adult, alternative, and Community Education programs.

The Peel District School Board, is the school district for the Region of Peel in Ontario, Canada. The board’s 262 schools and other facilities, including two online schools, are used by approximately 148,000 students between kindergarten and the twelfth grade.

About BlackOpportunity Fund
Black Opportunity Fund (BOF) is a community-led registered Canadian Charitable organization, whose mandate is to dismantle anti-Black racism by establishing a sustainable pool of capital to fund Black led businesses and Black led not for profits and charities, in order to improve the social and economic well-being of Canada’s Black communities.
The fund will catalyze the cultural, socio-economic, institutional, and political change required to enable Canada’s diverse Black communities to thrive. Black Opportunity Fund will prioritize initiatives around education, health, women, criminal justice, entrepreneurship, arts & culture, and youth that impact the quality of life in Black communities across Canada.
Black Opportunity Fund fulfills its mandate by
- Providing grants to Black-led not for profits and charities, who are leading initiatives that impact the quality of life in Canada’s Black communities.
- Facilitating access to capital for Black-led businesses to drive economic empowerment through the disbursement of loans, equity investments and other funding support.
