Hon. Lincoln Alexander Bust at Ontario’s Queen’s Park Legislature

BOF was the lead funder for the creation of a bust of the Hon. Lincoln Alexander, which was unveiled in the Queen’s Park Legislative Building in Ontario, on Lincoln Alexander Day, January 21st, 2024. This is the first statue of a Black individual ever permanently displayed in any legislative building in Canada. The bust of ‘Linc’ is now included as part of education tours of Queen’s Park. Black Opportunity Fund funded talented Afrofuturist artist Quentin VerCetty to create this historic legacy project. This fits under a number of BOF’s mandate areas including support for educational initiatives, arts and culture, as well as entrepreneurs. This project commemorates Lincoln Alexander’s remarkable legacy including being Canada’s first Black MP, the first Black Canadian Cabinet Minister, and the first Black Lieutenant Governor of Ontario. He also served as Chair of the Workers Compensation Board of Ontario, as well as the Canadian Race Relations Foundation.

About BlackOpportunity Fund
Black Opportunity Fund (BOF) is a community-led registered Canadian Charitable organization, whose mandate is to dismantle anti-Black racism by establishing a sustainable pool of capital to fund Black led businesses and Black led not for profits and charities, in order to improve the social and economic well-being of Canada’s Black communities.
The fund will catalyze the cultural, socio-economic, institutional, and political change required to enable Canada’s diverse Black communities to thrive.
